Regulators worldwide probe chocolate price-fixing claims

NEWARK, N.J. — If you feel your Valentine's Day chocolates are not such a sweet deal this year, you're not alone. Regulators are investigating price fixing among candy makers in at least three different countries.

In the last week, the German Federal Cartel Office raided the offices of seven of leading chocolate companies including Mars Inc., Kraft Foods Inc. and Nestle SA searching for documents. Three months ago, Canada's Competition Bureau searched the offices of several companies, many of the same ones as in Germany.

The Canadian investigation sparked several American lawsuits accusing the world's biggest chocolate companies of violating antitrust laws. The U.S. Department of Justice declined to confirm it is investigating, yet several companies confirmed receiving inquiries.

10 CU frat pledges arrested

If the authoritarian, "it's-for-the-children" school system teachs kids to blindly acquiesce to petty authority, to swallow obvious lies without demur, and never to think for themselves, what happens when they get to college and don't have that ring in their nose?

This isn't the Republic of Boulder culture: had it been, the students would have been smoking pot and holding a drum circle in the motel room while sweet hippie chicks danced!

No, this was imperial-ruling-class, alcohol-pixilated, twighlight-of-democracy frat boy culture.

TV drama 'Quarterlife' is 100 percent self-absorbed

The drama quarterlife premiered on the Internet before jumping to NBC tonight. Jumping, however, is too positive a term. Skidding is more appropriate.

This little pipsqueak of a show doesn't deserve the wider forum of broadcasting. But that's what it will gain at 10 o'clock on WESH-Channel 2 and in its regular time slot at 9 p.m. Sundays, starting this weekend.

The series comes from executive producers Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, who have a notable track record. Their ground-breaking thirtysomething wowed or annoyed viewers. The duo later delivered the tender dramas My So-Called Life and Once and Again.
