The GOP's fake immigration tough guys: Mark Krikorian cracks Giuliani's code on immigration. It seems Giuliani wants to stop illegal immigrants at the border but resists "internal" enforcement--e.g., employer sanctions. I'm less gung ho about the need for "attrition" in the immigrant population than Krikorian is--but you do have to have "internal" enforcement to diminish the "jobs magnet," no? Unless, as Krikorian speculates regarding Giuliani, you only want control at the border as a political stunt to appease the 'yahoos' and pave the way for legalization.

It has been an emotionally intense year: I finally finished Control, I moved to Holland, and my father passed away. A black-and-white movie about epilepsy and suicide with unknown actors and a first-time director is a difficult proposition, so to have found a place in people's hearts is just wonderful.

School results - Daugherty wins UPDATED

When we called the race earlier, the only official results available for the runoff were for early and absentee voting, which Daugherty carried 113-107. But workers for both candidates -- gathering votes by checking posted totals at individual precincts -- were coming up with similar tallies giving Daugherty the victory. This turnout was an increase of more than 50 percent over the first election, which Daugherty led 808-806. Two other candidates picked up 193 more votes in the first election. (The Pulaski County Election Commission had problems with its Internet provider, which hampered reporting of vote totals Tuesday night.)

I drove around to a few polls myself to gather some early votes. I checked the biggest individual poll for Daugherty and Swaim in the first election and a large box with a split vote.

Rams offer new hope in new course

In more ways than one, the Rams are in transition. The franchise changed hands with the death of beloved owner Georgia Frontiere. Her son, Chip Rosenbloom, is in control now, though it will take time for him to assume a more proactive role.

To their credit, the Rams aren't moping around, waiting for a dramatic transformation to occur, until a new course is set by Rosenbloom. Instead, the front office and coaching staff are making things happen.

"We just have to go," Rams general manager Jay Zygmunt said. "We're circling the wagons. We don't get this time back. It's an important offseason. You just can't stop."
