AOL Personals – Zogby Poll Probes American Views on Love and ...

Dulles, Va. and Utica, New York. More than 4 in 10 Americans (44%), including 50% in their 20s dont believe that they need to be married to validate the commitment of a long-term relationship, according to a survey from AOL Personals (http://personals.aol.com) and Zogby*. This is just one of the many findings from a new interactive survey of Americans age 20 to 69 that tackles how different generations view a wide range of relationship issues from love to soul mates, money and trust.

While many dont believe marriage is the ultimate symbol of commitment, there are significant differences among older and younger adults regarding how they view dating while nearly half of Americans said they would date someone who is not interested in a long-term relationship, older adults tend to be more open to dating without fixating on how long a relationship might last.

Valentine's Day events for haters, lovers and everyone in-between

I'm far from a hopeless romantic, but I do like seeing people have a good time. That's why I'm glad some of the bars and clubs around town are getting a fiscal bite out of the holiday Hallmark gave us. After all, the card, chocolate and flower companies shouldn't be the only ones allowed to profit off our hearts.

The best part about these events is that they work for almost everyone, whether you have someone or don't, care about meeting that special someone or just catching a buzz. Valentine's Day isn't just for you silly romantics anymore, but you can definitely join in on the party if you would like.

Amazon plans to take its DRM-free music offering worldwide

And the others—such as eMusic, 7digital, PureTracks, and Amie Street—have just a sprinkling of bigger names with their smaller labels. Amazon also offers slightly more competitive prices than its number one rival (iTunes), with most tracks going for 89¢ apiece instead of iTunes' standard 99¢.

Yahoo is, however, apparently planning its own DRM-free music store that could potentially rival Amazon's. If true, both companies need to figure out ways to set themselves apart, by offering more services or music in multiple, flexible formats. Amazon likely already knows this, and wants to stay ahead of the game by announcing its international launch plans now even if the details haven't been solidified yet. In the meantime, iTunes—which already has a number of localized iTunes Stores set up all over the world—will continue the fight to get more DRM-free tracks before Amazon manages to take over.

Caller, employee may share blame for dispatch

FACT: it was 3 times in 7 days. She also told News 2 the Center is "understaffed". FACT: they have more dispatchers there than they have EVER had. Those are 2 misleading statements she made in that report

Now, to address the 911 call itself, the dispatcher that answered the 911 call was none other than the Senior Dispatcher and Certified Training Officer. The proper phone answering procedure, as of February 2007, was "Bedford County 911, Where is Your Emergency?". The "where" is the most important question, because no matter what the emergency is, if we don't know where you are, how can anyone come and help you? If you listen to the call, at no time did the Senior Dispatcher/Trainer ask "Where is Your Emergency?".. Now the huge problem here is, the Senior Dispatcher/Trainer that verified with the caller, the fire was on CROWELL RD, is the same Senior Dispatcher/Trainer that told responding fire personnel the fire is on Virgil Crowell Rd.

Boy George Denies False Imprisonment Charge

Boy George has denied imprisoning a 28-year-old Norwegian man at his London home last year. The former Culture Club singer pleaded not guilty to the charge of false imprisonment during a court hearing in London on Thursday.

Audun Carlsen claims Boy George handcuffed him to a wall after he went to the singer's apartment as a photo model. The incident allegedly took place last April.

Boy George appeared in court under his real name, George O'Dowd. The 46-year-old singer is free on bail and is due to stand trial in November. (AP)

Clinton Replaces Campaign Manager

Obama won the popular vote in 13 states, while Clinton won in eight states and American Samoa.

Both Clinton and Obama have been competitive in fundraising for most of the campaign; each raised more than $100 million last year. In the last few weeks, however, Clinton lagged behind Obama as he raised $32 million in January to her $13.5 million, forcing her to lend her campaign $5 million before Super Tuesday. The campaign said Saturday that it had raised $10 million since the beginning of February.

Obama enjoyed a three-state sweep Saturday night, winning the Louisiana primary and caucuses in Washington state and Nebraska. He has the potential to pad his victories in contests Tuesday in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, as well as next week in Wisconsin and his native Hawaii.

The Receding Hemlines of Crown Heights

Returning to the Chabad headquarters in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, for a Shabbos is an exhilarating experience. Lubavitchers are arguably the most alive people in the world, and there is a pulse and electricity in the air that can scarcely be found anywhere else. What I did not expect, however, was to be approached by a large number of young rabbinical students (bochurim) of marriageable age who wanted counseling as to how to overcome their obsession with a woman's looks on dates. Some of the bochurim who approached me had dated upwards of 40 women and had been instantly dismissive if she wasn't a beauty. Mind you, these were not bums. Most were outstanding young scholars, deeply religious, serious about their rabbinical degrees, and desirous of going out--right after marriage--to the far corners of the world to spread Judaism.

Like their playoff-bound Mustangs, the University of Western Ontario ...

With a history dating back 125 years and a place of prominence as one of Canada's top Universities, the University of Western Ontario is a place of tradition and excellence. However, it is also a thoroughly modern school providing near campus-wide WiFi , promoting the use of RSS feeds, Podcasting and blogs among faculty and students. The embracing of technology can lead to other issues though, one of these being SPAM. Out of a daily average of about 96,000 emails, about 85,000 were spam. Explains Eric Cartman, System Administrator at Western. Eric and the rest of Western's IT team was already familiar with a couple of Roaring Penguin's products. We'd been using SpamAssassin and [Roaring Penguin's] MimeDefang with success but were spending hours whitelisting, blacklisting, and tweaking settings trying to serve the diverse and changing needs of our users.

How the 'clean factor' plays in relationships

It's no surprise to this self-proclaimed germ freak that, in the world of relationships, the "clean" factor weighs more than some may have thought.

When Yahoo Personals and Clorox teamed up to do a survey about how cleanliness affects our love lives, they discovered some very interesting proclivities:

-- Almost one-third of respondents found that when it comes to selecting a partner, a person's domestic cleaning habits are very important, and bad habits can be a deal breaker.

-- More people would rather date a germ freak than a complete slob.

-- Six out of 10 people consider cleaning compatibility to be as important as sharing common interests.

-- Over one-third of respondents said their dates had to be both neat and clean, and the vast majority felt they had to be at least neat or clean.

Universal Buys Univision Music Division

Seeking to become el grande in the growing U.S. Latin music market, Universal Music Group on Thursday said it had agreed to buy Univision Communications Inc.'s record division, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The purchase price was nearly $140 million, according to two people close to the negotiations who asked not to be identified because the financial terms were confidential.

The acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval, would more than triple Universal's share of the Latin music market to about 49%. And it would expand the range of the world's largest record company into such popular niches as regional Mexican music, Latin pop, Latin rap and hip-hop.

"This deal is about following the changing demographics of the population of the country," said Zach Horowitz, president and chief operating officer of Universal Music, who negotiated the deal.

ALLHIPHOP NEWS RUN DOWN

Music celebrities are all in LA this week getting ready for the Grammys. Yesterday began the first day of "Backstage at the Grammys." Celebrities on hand were Shawn and Kim Wayans, Chingy, Chrisette Michelle ,Tank, Lil' Mama, Rick Ross, Three Six Mafia and more. "The Trey the Chocolate Jock More Jump-off" is one of the many radio shows on hand conducting interviews and, of course, my girl morning show co-host, Kendra G. checked in with me.

Tank pretty much confirmed that the "TGT" album, (Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank) will be out no time soon! Without naming which member Tank said in so many words that there is an ego problem going on and that the money should be split evenly amongst all three people. I can't say, but Tyrese is very excited about the project.
