High voter turnout causes ballot shortage

I marked it, and then took it back to the table where the poll workers were, one worker took it and started to put it in the ballot box when i stopped her and said it had no voter number on it - they hadn't given me one. And I told her that it had nothing connecting it to me/my information, she just grabbed it and put it in the box. I've been voting for almost 30 years, and I've never seen such a poorly run or more user-unfriendly polling place. There has GOT to be a better way.

Ringler: College golf's ABCs

A – Alabama: Jay Seawell has built the Crimson Tide into one of the country's premiere programs and a threat to win the men's championship.

B – Bubble: With district allocations gone from the men's and women's selection process we will now truly have teams on the bubble as the spring season progresses.

C – Charlotte: The 49ers men's team went 58-0 in the fall, and might be the best team in the country at spots 1-5 in the lineup.

D – Denver: Sammie Chergo's Pioneers might petition to move the NCAA Divison I Women's Championship to the fall season. Fall golf has been good to Denver the last two seasons and they enter the spring as the No. 5 team in the country.

E – East Carolina: Head coach Kevin Williams returned to lead the Pirate women and has guided them to a No.

Press Briefing by Ambassador Mark Dybul, Global Aids Coordinator, and ...

So a lot of praise for what that clinic has done.

I think all three of these sites are tremendous examples of what President Bush talked about before coming here, and what PEPFAR is all about. In fact, what his new era in development, which isn't limited just to PEPFAR, is all about, is partnering with and supporting local people, and we saw that today -- the governments together, jointly supporting activities, working in the community to support community organizations.

So a very exciting day, but also one that demonstrates some of those principles of the new era in development, that discards donors and recipients and works in true partnership. And I think that's why President Kikwete this morning spoke so strongly about the need for PEPFAR and the importance it's had in this country.

TV Docs offer entertaining treatment to benefit writers

Oh, who spent some time in January on the picket line to show solidarity for the "Grey's" staff, said she noticed the strikers were getting "really nervous" as the work stoppage wore on.

"I heard things like, 'I have enough saved to get by for one more month,' " she recalled. "There was this underlying worry. People were starting to think it could go on for months and months."

Oh used her time off to simply "recharge" after "a hectic four seasons."

She added, "Now that everybody's recharged, we're going to get some really good stuff on the show this year. We have well-rested writers with a burst of creativity. I think we're all excited to see what's going to happen."

Natalie Portman - more than a woman

Society's attitude to powerful women has scarcely changed in the 472 years since Anne Boleyn was beheaded at the Tower of London, concludes the actress Natalie Portman, who portrays Henry VIII's unfortunate second wife in The Other Boleyn Girl.

"You do see how people were calling her [Anne] a witch for having power, and people do that still," argues Portman. "I mean, we still demonise women in power and we still make them targets of ridicule. It's so easy to call them names and criticise them for having power, for making changes, for being strong. Like Hillary Clinton, who I think is so very smart. It's interesting to me that that taboo is still in place," she says.

In recent years, the focus of public criticism has switched to female celebrities.

Movie Review: Unsettling yet gripping chills in Untraceable are hard ...

Diane Lane plays a special unit FBI agent trying to track a psychopath who tortures people and animals to death in the most gruesome ways for the entertainment of Internet viewers in the kinky chiller Untraceable.

Untraceable has elements of the Saw movies (although not quite as grisly) and even recalls the final terrifying woman-in-peril sequence from Silence of the Lambs. It has moments that are creepily chilling, especially as the insane torturer sets up — or appears to be setting up — his next victim. And it has a strong cast, led by Lane, that sucks us into the film's increasing sense of dread.

Director Gregory Hoblit has been playing creepy mind games on audiences since 1996's Primal Fear, which put Edward Norton on the map with an Oscar nomination, and most recently in the twisty thriller Fracture, starring Anthony Hopkins and Billy Burke, who plays a Portland, Ore., police detective in Untraceable.

Terror accused should thank the Crown, not condemn it

How many NZ journalists have done an in depth investigation into the events of 9/11 which was the turning point in the political, corporate disaster known as the "war on terror". The "terrorists" are currently occupying high posts in the US Govt. Treasonous fascists such as Bush, Cheney, etc. Do some research on 9/11. It is NOT over. We were told a bunch of LIES. The war on terror is the war on grabbing Middle East oil covered up with a horrific orchestrated event on 9/11. 9/11 was AN INSIDE JOB. Millions know this as fact. The media however continues to play the game of denial and stupidity and will not give ANY coverage to FACTS. Yellow journalism at its best is what we see here with our stupid political leaders falling for the con-job.
